How coherent breathing keeps a 5.5 second pace
There are two parts and they match. The shape grows for 5.5 seconds and shrinks for 5.5 seconds, then starts again. The digit counts 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The 6 is only on screen for the first half second, because 5.5 seconds rounds up at the start of the part and the count never shows zero. That is the same rule as a 4 second part, which counts 4, 3, 2, 1. The strip under the shape is two equal segments. If you switch to the square, the dot spends half the lap on the in-breath and half on the out-breath. A five minute session still ends on a finished breath, so the clock runs a little past five minutes. Cue off is the plain page. Bell plays at the start of each in-breath and each out-breath. Tone glides up while you breathe in and back down while you breathe out, with no steady hold in between because this pattern has none. You can leave a mix playing from the Sound button. The mix stays at its own level while the cue, if you turned one on, sits on top. Open is there when you do not want a finish time. Three, five, and ten minutes are the other session chips, and any other length you put in the address bar shows up as its own chip.
The half-second is the part a silent count tends to rush, so keep the page fullscreen on a spare screen and let the shape mark it. The bars hide while it runs. On an iPad, add the page to the Home Screen and set Auto-Lock to Never, or the pace stops when the screen turns off.
Breathe gently. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, stop and breathe normally.
FAQ
What count does this coherent breathing page use?
5.5 seconds in and 5.5 seconds out. There is no hold on either side. Eleven seconds is one breath, and a minute of that pace is about 5.45 breaths. The steppers move by a whole second and keep the half, so 5.5 becomes 6.5 if you lengthen it, and the page switches to Custom.
Why does the count start at 6 for a 5.5 second breath?
The digit is the whole seconds still to come, rounded up, and it never reaches zero. A 5.5 second part therefore shows 6 for the first half second, then 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. The shape itself moves smoothly through the full 5.5 seconds. The 6 is the label, not an extra second of breathing.
Can coherent breathing play under other sound?
Yes. The Sound control opens the same mixer as the other tools on this site. Start a rain or café mix, then start the breath. The cue, if you chose bell or tone, does not duck the mix on every phase. That would pump the sound every few seconds. Set the mix to fade at the end if you want it to leave when a timed session finishes.
